Commenting on the independent evaluation report on Fair Work First, commissioned by the Scottish Government and published this week, a College Employers Scotland spokesperson, said:

"We welcome this report, which provides a valuable and timely assessment of Fair Work First and offers important insights to guide its continued development and implementation. The report highlights both the progress that has been made in embedding Fair Work principles and the practical challenges that employers and funders face.

"Scotland's colleges have a strong track record as Fair Work employers, evidenced by the inclusion of a college as a case study, and are committed to working constructively with government, trade unions and other partners to further advance Fair Work outcomes. 

"From April next year, colleges will be required to meet all seven Fair Work First criteria as a condition of Scottish Funding Council funding. While colleges are well placed to build on the significant progress already made, appropriate transition arrangements and practical support will be vital to ensuring the enhanced requirements can be implemented in an equitable and sustainable way, against a backdrop of continuing financial pressures.”
