Former Head of National Bargaining retires after two successful years with CES

John Anderson, former Head of National Bargaining at College Employers Scotland (CES), retires today (Friday 6 February 2026).
He has led several major achievements since joining CES in January 2024, from securing a multi-year support staff pay deal to driving reform of national collective bargaining.
John, who also served as Acting CES Director, said: “I am truly grateful for the opportunity over the past two years to support Scotland’s college sector. A deep dedication to serving students and communities has been evident in everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with.
“I do look forward to my retirement, but I will miss the outstanding team at College Employers Scotland, as well as the trade union officials and representatives I have come to know. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together and wish the sector, and all those within it, the very best for the future.”
Dr David C Watt, Chair of CES, said: “Over the past two years, John has made an enormous contribution, particularly in embedding positive and constructive employer–trade union relations. During this work he has demonstrated great care for personal and professional relationships while retaining his impish good humour.
“I would like to thank John for everything he has done for CES, and I wish him well in his retirement.”
