College Employers Scotland appoints new Head of National Bargaining
College Employers Scotland (CES) has appointed Steve Farrell (pictured) as its new Head of National Bargaining.
He succeeds John Anderson, who is currently serving as Acting CES Director and will retire at the end of January.
Steve brings extensive industrial relations expertise, having held senior roles across the trade union movement for more than 20 years.
Dr David Watt, Chair of CES, said:
“It is a pleasure to welcome Steve as our new Head of National Bargaining at such an important moment in CES’ development.
“We are seeing real progress in areas including collective bargaining reform, supported by a marked improvement in industrial relations. With his significant trade union experience, Steve is well placed to carry this progress forward and help ensure our colleges remain the world-class centres of learning that students deserve.”
Steve Farrell – who also manages Dumbarton Football Club – said:
“I am delighted to be appointed Head of National Bargaining at College Employers Scotland.
“It is a privilege to take on this role, and I look forward to working closely with colleagues and stakeholders across both the organisation and the wider sector. My immediate aim will be to support ongoing constructive dialogue to deliver positive outcomes for colleges and their staff.”
Dr Watt also thanked John Anderson for his leadership as Head of National Bargaining and, more recently, as Acting Director.
He added:
“After several challenging years, the sector has in recent months seen a significant shift in industrial relations – a testament to John’s commitment to building strong, collaborative relationships with trade unions and other partners. CES is deeply grateful for the contribution he has made.”
